So AEW’s double or nothing was a huge success. It definitely exceeded my expectations. I would have been happy with just an okay show that offered an alternative to WWE but what I got instead was a classic PPV.
Cody vs. Dustin Rhodes was definitely a better match than what I expected to see. The storytelling was phenomenal. Dustin bled all over the ring and gave a gutsy performance that in my opinion will be the highlight of his career. Brett Hart came revealed the new AEW Championship. I personally liked the belt. Some people have said it looks too much like an IWPG title but that’s what I liked about the Belt. AEW’s championship looks better than any belt/title that WWE has. Jericho vs Omega really felt like a big deal. The match felt like it was bigger than this years WrestleMania. The match was well paced and highlighted the 2 wrestlers as the top stars of AEW. This is something that is missing from WWE, the stars just don’t feel like stars in WWE. Jericho picked up the win over Omega with his new finishing move the Judas elbow. Jericho’s victory gives him the opportunity to fight Hangman Page, the winner will become the very first AEW champion. The biggest moment of the night was after the Y2J vs Omega match when John Moxley walked through the crowd and proceeded to give Jericho and the referee the dirty-deeds. He attempted to give the Omega the dirty-deeds but they would end up rumbling outside of the ring taking all the way to the stage and Moxley would finally give the dirty-deeds to Omega on top of the big poker chips. The show ends with Moxley standing on top of the chips with the crowd going crazy. The brawl between Moxley and Omega will most likely set up fued between the two in the future. I swear I got the Stone Cold Steve Austin vibes from Moxley. To be honest, Vince Mcmahon has to be feeling the pressure. For so long WWE has been the only big name in wrestling but now it is clear that AEW has carved out its place and is now player pro-wrestling. Overall I give Double Or Nothing a 9 out 10 simply because they made sure all of the key matches felt like a big deal and that is the most important thing when it comes to a wrestling ppv.
